I discovered my love for arts, culture, and storytelling while growing up in Flint, Michigan. My eyes would widen at every new exhibit at the Flint Institute of Arts. I could hardly sit still due to my excitement every time I saw a new Broadway show at the Whiting. And of course, my heart would race whenever I visited the Flint Public Library with its vast utopia of bookshelves; growing up, I was an avid reader with a vivid imagination, and that hasn’t changed. I believe words and stories have the power to broaden our horizons, recognize our differences, and make us feel less alone in a world that can get pretty lonely.
