Today’s book recommendation is “The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender” by Leslye Walton. I read this a while ago and still find myself thinking about it every now and then.

“And that might just be the root of the problem: we’re all afraid of each other, wings or no wings.”
It’s hard to put into words how exquisite and whimsical story this story was. Ava is a normal, sixteen year old girl; save for one fact- she was born with a pair of wings. Though there were so many magical elements, Ava’s story is incredibly real. It deals with valid and important issues. This book centers not only on Ava, but her entire family, beginning with her grandmother. I got lost in her family’s story and by the time I was finished reading, I even missed them.
This novel is magical realism at its finest. It was as beautiful as its title and cover. A unique and enchanting story of love, “The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender” will tug at your heartstrings.
Feel like reading it…
